The Vision of Coast Opportunity Funds is to be a world class model of how empowered aboriginal peoples and communities can achieve meaningful economic development and community health while conserving the integrity of the ecosystems in which they live.
The Mission of Coast Opportunity Funds is to work collaboratively with First Nations of the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii to support sustainable economic development and conservation management in the Central Coast, North Coast and Haida Gwaii areas of coastal British Columbia.
Our Core Business
We pursue this vision and mission by partnering with First Nations to develop successful applications that fund sound, high quality projects. To that end, we work with First Nations to support essential capacity strengthening efforts, and engage in the development of relationships and ntworking with sister agencies, financial institutions and potential partners to leverage additional resources and maximize the impact of Coast Funds' investments. Integral to all our work is the responsible administration and investment of the funds entrusted to us by private funders and the governments of British Columbia and Canada.

- Integrity and consistency in our decisions.
- Collaboration and inclusiveness in our support of First Nations.
Strategic Goals
Coast Funds has adopted six core strategic goals in its 2010 - 2012 Strategic Plan. To achieve them requires a level of excellence recognized by our funders as well as the Participating First Nations communities. It means achieving results through skilled management and community collaboration and building upon our model for the continued future benefit not only of B.C.’s coastal First Nation communities, but for communities and ecosystems around the world.
The six core strategic goals of Coast Funds’ over the next three years are:
To promote robust and diverse community economies throughout the region. Over the long term, this work will catalyze a shift to a more sustainable regional economy based on preserving ecological integrity of the coastal temperate rainforest and the adoption of ecosystem-based management (EBM) practices.
To contribute to conservation goals that include a substantial network of effectively-managed protected areas and the adoption of EBM practices.
To increase the capacity in First Nations' communities to realize sustainable economic development opportunities and participate in conservation management, project development and job development.
To build relationships and support partnerships and integrated regional planning and collaboration with non-government organizations and agencies, local governments and business groups involved in conservation and sustainable economic and community development in the region.
To exchange information, knowledge, expertise and lessons with conservation and sustainable economic development investment programs in BC, Canada and world wide.
To ensure that Coast Funds has the capacity and capability as an organization to support First Nations' efforts throughout the region.
